Santa’s Coming To Town

Mason and Max In Studio with Jessica Wayne Photography

Mason and his little brother Max came to spend some time with me in my studio before Christmas. And let me tell you, we had a lot of fun! Max and Mason sported some winter hats along with some Christmas sweaters 🙂  Be sure to check out Mason’s sloth sweater!!

Big brother, Mason has been busy this winter playing hockey for the Menomonie Youth Hockey Association. Baby brother, Max is his number one fan! I’m so lucky that I get to see these two at the hockey rink twice a week! I usually see Max in his stroller watching the BIG kids skate.

LOOK at that little tongue sticking out at big brother! And that poof ball on Max’s hat! GAH!

OOOOHHHH! His baby blues got my heart beating at a little faster pace! I’m a sucker for blue eyes!

You guys! Seriously! His little features and hat and Christmas sweater! I just LOOOVE him!

It was pretty cold outside, so we did our main shooting in the studio. However, we snuck outside for a couple quick shots! There is that tongue again!

10 Things I can’t Live Without

Here is my list of 10 things I can’t live without. Ok, I probably could, but life would be soooo much harder and not as much fun!

  1. My boys. I have 3 boys, ages 8, almost 6 and 2. And of course, the number 4 boy is my husband…They are my life and I couldn’t imagine life without them. They drive me absolutely bonkers most days, but they are also the sweetest, loving, kind and hardworking little humans ever. My husband, is a farmer and just works his tail off to provide for us. I just love them!
  2. Chapstick– I have a purse chapstick and a car chapstick, a bag chapstick and a home chapstick. I HATE dry lips and I think when I do not have access to chapstick my lips just know it! My niece came to my rescue when I forgot my chapstick while visiting and she let me borrow hers! Thank you, Kaydyn!
  3. My pillow. Y’all, I have some serious sleep issues and to help me fall asleep easily is my pillow. When I travel I have to have my pillow, earplugs and a sound machine. Ok, maybe I am exposing myself too much. Seriously though, I NEED my pillow to sleep!
  4. Pure Leaf Raspberry Tea– Have you tried this? It is AMAZING! I have to limit myself to one a day. Seriously though, I can’t wait to wake up in the morning and get my day started with this tea. I’m not a coffee or pop drinker, so my tea is my life line. Remember, I have 3 boys to keep up with!
  5. My calendar– Yes, I am old school, I still have a large paper desk/tabletop calendar. I also add everything into my phone calendar as well. AND I might just have a third calendar that I have in my bag with me at all times. With working two jobs and raising 3 kids, I love being able to see a large monthly view of my schedule. You guys, I seriously have to look at my calendar daily to keep on track!
  6. My face moisturizer– I tend to have super dry skin, so I moisturize my face daily. I love to take a shower at night and then slather that lotion on my face as soon as I exit the shower.  Weird, I know.
  7. Permanent Markers. I LOVE office supplies. I swear, I was supposed to be a teacher. I love school supplies. That is by far my favorite isle in Target or Walmart to walk down. I have fine point and large point permanent markers on my desk at all times. I also always have some in my bag and purse! I know, I’m kinda weird! Back to school supply shopping is my absolute favorite!
  8. Photographs. This one makes sense, right? Since I am a photographer and all. I just have to have pictures around me at all times. I even have printed photographs on my visor in my truck! I have photos on my desk, in all rooms of my house, including my bathroom…
  9. Raspberries. My absolute favorite fruit of all times is raspberries. I always have to buy a two pack when I buy them at the grocery store. We also have a raspberry patch in our yard, however I mowed them off this summer, so I need to start a new patch!  🙁 I’ll have to remember to put that on my list.
  10. Lists! I am a total list person. I think I have probably 15 active “lists” on my phone right now. But I still prefer to have a handwritten paper list. I love to be able to check things off on my list, it makes me feel like I am accomplishing things! I’m not gonna lie, there are times I put something on my list that I’ve already done, just to cross it off!

Self Taught, Natural Light Photographer

Always Learning, Always Growing

To go to school or not to go to school for photography? That is the ultimate question.

I am a self taught, natural light photographer. I started my photography journey when I was pregnant with my second child in 2013. I now have 3 children, all boys. BOY MOM HERE! I wanted to be able to take “better” pictures of my children and so I bought a kit camera that came with 2 lenses. Little did I know that this journey would lead me into owning a photography business. I have always loved photography and taking pictures. I would take hundreds of pictures when I was a little girl. I loved my grandpa’s polaroid camera that made instant photos! I mean how cool was that?!?! So it does make sense that my love of photography has grown into something more, but I never expected to be an entrepreneur. I’ve never even taken a business class and now I am a business owner!!

Now, I don’t really now how to answer the question on whether or not photographers should go to school. And really I don’t feel like I am the person to provide an answer to that. I don’t think anyone can really provide that answer. I think there are always pros and cons to everything. I think it really depends on the person. I am a self taught photographer, however, I have taken some online classes and I am always researching and learning everyday. You tube videos, anyone?!?!?! I recently took an in person newborn and maternity workshop in the twin cities and I learned soooo much! I think I learned two years of information in one day. So, I think as photographers and entrepreneurs we are constantly learning and  growing and striving to make our business and products be the best they can be. Again, I am a natural light photographer, but I did use studio lights for the very first time at the newborn and maternity workshop and that was an amazing experience. I am so excited to see what the future holds for me and my business.
