Pic Day Palettes

Getting yourself (not to mention the whole family!) all ready and coordinated for pic day can be super overwhelming. Do’s and Don’ts and Color Palettes are just the tip of the iceberg.

Here’s a list of what to do (and not do) when getting ready for photo day with me!

definitely DO:

  • Coordinate with complementary colors

  • Keep your styles solid

  • Use neutrals and brights

  • Match your clothing style with the look you are going for (modern, rustic, glitzy, etc.)

  • Keep clothing inline with the season (fall, winter, summer)

  • Find a color palette via Pinterest and then plan your wardrobe

  • Lay your wardrobe out or even try on all of the outfits before your shoot in case it doesn’t look or fit right

  • Wear comfortable clothing

not so much:

  • Match colors exactly

  • Wear bold patterns that clash

  • Wear black or dark clothing

  • Every person wear the same exact outfit

  • Wear anything itchy

Focal Wardrobe

The multi-colored outfit is the focal point for an ensemble. Swatches from that clothing item are used throughout to dress the other people in the photo. Focal points can be stripes, floral patterns, and plaid flannel.

Romantic

A very charming color scheme when love is in the air. Class up any photos with simple jewelry that does not distract from the subject: aka you. :) Also, you can never go wrong with denim!

Monochromatic

Pictures are aesthetically pleasing when they are within a monochromatic color palette, meaning different shades and tints of the same color. Great for framing pictures in a room that is painted or decorated in the same or complementary color scheme.

Natural

Wearing clothing that represents nature is ideal for outdoor imagery. The season plays a large role in your wardrobe. This particular palette reflects a fall shoot.

Complementary

This basic color wheel color combo is a great way to keep it simple with 2 colors that play with each other very nicely.
Red + Green | Blue + Orange | Purple + Yellow

Neutral

Grays, browns, beiges, greyges, and golds are a great way to keep photography modern and simple. This style never goes out of style and can be framed and hung in any room color.
